Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a sleepy part of Montreal Island called West Island. It is a bit of a mystery as the West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar to its significance. Many people believe that it's an island to the to the west of Montreal However, it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the two cities that are Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is frequently called her birthplace. However, she only stayed there for a short period of time. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. When she was a child she hoped to become professional performer, however an unexpected expansion of her body made it impossible. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet and 1 inch." Once I was bigger than any male partner then I slowed down. Some former dancers switch into acting. In Brugel's case it was a suggestion from a high school drama teacher which led her in the right direction. It was her teacher who advised her to audition as Anne in their annual school production. She tried out and ended up playing the lead in Anne of Green Gables. She was awarded an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program which she completed in 2000 with a degree of Bachelor's in Fine Arts. Through the years since Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions on the big and small screens. She attracted the most interest when she was offered the part of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was only seen on a few instances in the initial season of the series The Handmaid's tale. She was the sole Canadian participant.
